There’s a lot more to African art than meets the eye. Inspired by landscape, traditions and cultion, African art has a lot to offer. You may love traditional African art (and so do we) but we think you’ll also be pleasantly surprised by some of our contemporary pieces, like the ‘Abundance’ painting.
African art is the perfect highlight for interior decor or exterior spaces. You may simply want to celebrate the essence of Africa, or if you’re of African descent it’s a beautiful way to display elements of your cultural heritage. Maybe you have fantastic memories of a trip to the motherland but you were too scared to bring wooden or soapstone sculptures back through Australian customs? Our local team selects the most creative pieces from the farms, studios and workshops where they’re created, so we know the story of each item from its source. This includes the artists’ inspiration as well as the materials and processes they’ve used, so we can clear it with customs and bring it safely to you.
Do you have a penchant for animal prints (leopard, zebra, cheetah or giraffe prints)? Or do you prefer neutral tones and textures? The beauty of it is that African paintings, sculptures and art are the perfect counterpart to satisfy your desire either way. When it comes to interiors, an African theme can be a really flexible choice as you can take a traditional or contemporary route and easily tweak it over time with a few new pieces. You can complement neutral tones with wooden sculptures or provide contrast and a splash of colour with a piece like the stunningly evocative ‘Pokot Bride Dancer’ painting.
We live in a generic world of ‘safe’ clean lines and cookie cutter IKEA furnishings at every turn. So our African art pieces are guaranteed to stand out and get a great conversation going. Add a bottle of Amarula and you’ll really get the party started.
We’d love to know, which of our pieces of African art do you think is the most unique?
